Delays ahead for drivers as Stewarton road closed for work

There will be delays and diversions ahead for drivers in Stewarton, with major resurfacing works coming to the A735 road to Kilmaurs.

From Monday 20 February, East Ayrshire Council will be carrying out re-surfacing works on the A735 – Kilmaurs to Stewarton Road from Peacockbank Farm to Lainshaw Street. These works are the first phase of a £170k expenditure on the A735 which is part of the major re-surfacing programme being carried out throughout East Ayrshire.

Due to the limited road widths on the A735 and the nature of the work, it will be necessary, for the safety of both the travelling public and the workers, to close the carriageway for the duration of the works. This will include the B769 from Cunninghamhead at its junction with the A735.

Diversion routes will be fully signed however it is inevitable that the closure of the above roads will lead to significant disruption.  The Council apologises for any inconvenience the closures will cause, however these are essential works and will improve the quality of the road surface.

Blue Light Emergency Service access will be maintained at all times.

What do you think of the diversions and delays – or is the resurfacing badly needed? Post your comments and have your say here on s1stewarton

Im pleased to see resurfacing work being done on the main route to Kilmarnock from Stewarton. But having travelled on the "back road" to Kilmarnock for the last week I think the road condition is appauling. Especially the first mile or so and also the area of road where the old "Prosper Engineering " building was. The amount of potholes is shocking. I think that after resurfacing work is done on the main road maybe its an option to get some money spent fixing / upgrading the "back road"

You'll mibbe need to wait for the next developer "contribution" to get that done !! ..... Either that, or it'll get done as a matter of course when that area is handed on a plate to them by Northern Area Planning Commitee for building houses up there as well !! ....
