The Carlin or Hags Stone

On top of the Common Crags overlooking the village of Dunlop and the Glazert Water is a large procumbent boulder recorded on the OS Maps as the ‘Carlin’s Stone or Stane’. This ancient monument is also known locally as the Hag's Stone.

The Carlin Stone is not as well known locally as the nearby glacial erratic known as the Thurgarstone or Ogrestone. It is close to the Commoncraigs Community Woodland, but fenced off.
The Commoncraigs Community Woodland is on the core path route from Dunlop to Stewarton and consists of a relatively large area of mainly deciduous plantings with a network of maintained paths.
